Q: What’s strong, sure and fresh from the fight?
A: Fix-it Man.
This particular hero is just an honest bloke committed to solving DIY crime in Central London. No job is too small, apparently, for this pink T-shirt-clad DIY master and his team. He’ll deal with anything from grouting or radiator bleeding to assembling flatpack furniture or installing a washing machine. Taking a tip from fellow heroes, he doesn’t require a call-out charge. Fees are calculated on a half-hourly basis, from £30.
Founded by Scott Newman (one-time PA to the Duchess of York, don’t you know), Fix-it Man is refreshingly efficient and polite; he won’t leave a mess and doesn’t require tea or biscuits.
He may lack some spider senses, and he won’t arrive in a Batmobile.
But at least there’s no more holding out ’til the morning light.

"Now, I am sure you have
all been in the same situation as I have at some point
or another. You have a few odd-jobs that need to be
done around the house. The trouble is, they are all
the piddly, fiddly things that really don't warrant
calling in various tradesmen to deal with, and even
if you did, the costs attached would be prohibitive.
So, you make a pact with yourself, or in my case, my
other half agreed "to sort it out at the weekend".
Before you know it, several months of weekends have passed, the coupole of
jobs have turned into a list as long as your arm and the tension in the house
is rising....read more |

Get Your Fix: For all of us time-poor DIY incapables floating
about with wonky shelves and blinds still waiting
to be hung, these painful jobs can now be fixed without
you moving a muscle thanks to Fix-it Man.
Fix-it Man was set up two years ago by Scott Newman
who previously worked for the Duchess of York as
her PA/logistic manager, and now employs a team of
smart, uniformed handymen who drive around London
in branded vans, all tools intact. I was lucky enough
to get Scott to my flat for a couple of hours to
put up a shower door that had been abandoned, still
in its pakaging, behind my dinig table since I moved
in...just a couple of years ago. It took Scott about
30 minutes or less to put up the shower door. Next
he fitted a lock in my bathroom door that needed
cutting down to size (and managed to fit perfectly
even though I'd screwd the door hadles on embarrassingly
badly - the first of my many DIY crimes). Next he
screwed in some curtain tie-back hooks to the nedroom
wall, that I had again messed up.
All the Fix-it Man handymen are taught to be quick
and efficient, offering value fro money (and no tea
and biscuits required, they say). There are no call-out
fees and charges are calculated on a half-hourly
basis (£30 for the first half hour and £20
for each half hour thereafter). It's a fantastic
service, with friendly, smart, professional staff,
who'll sort out all those annoying jobs in less time
than you could finish reading the instructions. Five
stars to them. |

Fix-it Man Ltd, which is based in Bryanstone
Road, Crouch End, promises to whiz around your home
fixing anything from leaking taps to flat pack furniture.
The business was the brainchild of Scott Newman,
30, who used to work with the Duchess of York. |
 |
He said: "I used
to organise travel for the Duchess and I helped
to look after Beatrice. I used to go on holiday
with them and I met the whole family. They're absolutely
lovely. What you read in the papers is totally
different:'Scott started up the service as a result
of meeting his future wife, Camilla. When they
met, Camilla and her sister were living in a flat
in Highgate, but no tradesmen were interested in
fix ing a broken cupboard door or putting up blinds.
Scott added: "There
was no one to call to get these jobs done, so I
thought there's a niche market here:'
Fix-It Man was born a year ago, and it has already
featured on First Time Buyers on UKTV Style offering
advice about home improvements.
New Zealand-born Scott
added: "Everyone we
go to says how glad they are to have found us." |

I would just like to say how particularly impressed I was with the man that you sent over yesterday to fix the window at Vera Road, Fulham. He worked quickly and efficiently and was polite at all times - which is no mean feat when you have a hormonal, pregnant woman suggesting incorrect, alternative methods for doing the repair!!
I feel, just as it is important to say when a service has not been good I think it is equally important to say when it has been and the service I received yesterday was exceptional.
I look forward to working with you again in the future.
Kind regards
Georgie
Many thanks for the work done – it was fantastic!
Thanks
Ann-Marie Fletcher SW11
I didn’t get chance yesterday but wanted to send you an email to say how happy I’ve been with your service. Pete is a lovely guy who was there at 8am sharp and completed all jobs perfectly.
Many thanks for a good/professional service,
Charlotte Taylor NW2

rail. He was very quick, efficient and a thoroughly
nice chap. I will not hesitate to recommend your company
to anyone else and will without doubt be using your services
in the future'
Mr Jacobs, SW15
'My experience of Fix-It Man was fantastic
from start to finish. The guys were so professional and helpful
I felt confident and assured that the job would be done quickly
and efficiently. My expectations were far exceeded and I
was delighted with the work that was done. A truly great
company that rises above it's competitors on all counts'
Clare Davies, Mail on Sunday
" I just wanted to thank you for the most
professional, efficient, prompt and friendly service I received
from Scott and Pete yesterday when they carried out the jobs
at my property, and also the efficient service received
by your office. I am already drawing up another list of jobs
- and hope to make use of your services again very soon. "
Ms
Harrison-Lawrence, Walthamstow
'Fix-it Man did a truly excellent job in
double quick time and great value and attitude. Many thanks
for sending him and I will make sure to tell all my friends
who have had bad experiences with workmen to call you in
future when they need something done.
Thanks again! '
M s Purmessur, SED5
"Just a quick note to say thanks to
you for a great service. I was visited by one of your Fix-it
Men on 23.06.05, who efficiently fixed the leak in my bathroom
with the minimum of fuss and mess. If only I had always
known where to find a curteous, competent handyman when I
needed one........! I will of course recommend you without
hesitation. "
Ms Clayton, E14
"I've already used Fix-it Man twice for jobs around
the home and have had a fantastic service! I would highly
recommend them to anyone!"
Tim Vincent TV Presenter, London.
"I had just bought my own flat and was moving in on
my own for the first time. Fix-it Man was absolutely amazing
- on the day I moved he fitted new locks, put in a peep-hole
and chain onto the door, put up shelves and blinds so that
I could unpack properly and draw the curtains that evening
- I couldn't have done it without him and would recommend
him to everyone!"
Jacqui, West Hampstead.
"Thank you for doing such a great job in our home....we
will definately recommend you to any of our friends/neighbours
and and if you need references please do not hesitate to
use us we'd be delighted. We wish you every success
with your business and no doubt will be in touch soon."
Mr & Mrs
O'Hare, NW6
"The work done for me yesterday was excellent and all undertaken
in such a friendly yet workmanlike way. I shall certainly
recommend your company to other people. Thank you and please
thank the Fix-it Man again for me."
